Automobiles in German Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were notified by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A senior representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
